Swordsoul Gameplay Guide

Swordsoul Gameplay Guide

Swordsoul 1 deck has been hyped since its release with the advertisement: Easy to play, Delicious - Nutritious - Cheap. However, it has gone through many ups and downs since then: Hype -> Suspected of being useless -> and now it is standing at Tier 3 thanks to its simplicity and stability despite all the criticism.

Swordsoul is a deck that focuses on Synchro with Tokens as the main Tuner. They have very simple combos and are famous for being easy to play, but their power is no joke. Swordsoul in Duel Links currently has very strong Boss Monsters like Chixiao or Chengyi, in addition to the bosses, they can also access a large amount of Synchro level 8 and 10, diverse in setting up the endboard. However, they also have quite a few weaknesses that I will mention later.

You can only use this Skill's second effect once per turn. 1: At the beginning of the Duel, add 3 "Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon" to your Extra Deck. During this Duel, you cannot Normal or Special Summon monsters (excluding Special Summons from the Extra Deck), except for "Fallen of Albaz", cards that mention "Fallen of Albaz", or "Swordsoul" monsters. If your opponent has a card on their field or in their Graveyard, you can Normal Summon 1 monster during your Main Phase in addition to your Normal Summon/Set. 2: Reveal 1 "Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous" or 1 "The Iris Swordsoul" from your hand, then add 1 "Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous" or 1 "Swordsoul" card from your Deck to your hand.

Virtuous Bonds isn't a bad skill, it has its strengths and limitations which we'll go over now. In this duel, you can't normal summon or special summon monsters except Fallen of Albaz cards that mention it and Swordsoul monsters, which immediately means you can't play Tenyi cards .

You can skip this section if you don't care about Tenyi : " Tenyi cards are really important for Swordsoul , providing extra bodies, allowing you to start combos easier. A single Tenyi usually means just straight up summoning Shaman of the Tenyi , which unlocks the Swordsoul half of your deck, and we can't do that in DuelLinks now."

If you reveal Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous , or The Iris Swordsoul, you get to add Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous , or 1 SwordSoul card from your deck to your hand for free once per turn (unlimited per duel), and if your opponent has a card on the field or in the graveyard, you get an extra normal summon, which all sounds pretty consistent. So, why doesn't it translate into a top tier deck?

This skill is also notable for what it doesn't have. It gives you extra normal summons and stuff, but it lacks something that a lot of skills now have in Duel Links , which is a turn two enabler.
If you're going later to try to bridge the gap between being first and last, the ability usually does something more to let you play through enemy disruption easier. Say it Swordsoul Blackout on your field and you could activate it the same turn it's set but it doesn't. And as it stands, an ability that only gives you +1 Card advantage in 2025 isn't enough to compete with the rest of the metagame.
You know, Blue-Eyes has a skill that lets them set Majesty with White Dragon when they go later. Um, this allows them to destroy up to three cards on the field at once. Swordsoul doesn't really have anything like that.

If your opponent controls more monsters than you do, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). You can only Special Summon "Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous" once per turn this way. You can only use each of the following effects of "Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous" once per turn. During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 1 "Swordsoul" monster or 1 "Fallen of Albaz" from your hand or Deck. During the End Phase, if a Fusion Monster(s) was sent to your GY this turn: Add this card from the GY to your hand.

x3 because it is the most useful Starter of the Deck and can also be combined with Skill to +1, we can quickly tribute this card to summon another Swordsoul card or a Fallen Of Albaz. This effect is Quick so it can be activated during the defensive burn turn, this can be considered a formidable Disruption when it can summon Albaz during the enemy's turn and I will talk about it in detail later.

If it's not your turn but yours, you can summon Mo Ye or Taia to start the combo. Ecclasia's Quick Eff can also dodge the enemy's disruption if they don't read it carefully.

During the Main Phase, if a monster, whose effects are negated, is on the field (Quick Effect): You can Special Summon this card from your hand. If your opponent Special Summons a monster(s) (except during the Damage Step): You can activate 1 of these effects based on where it was Special Summoned from; ● Hand: Special Summon 1 monster from your hand. ● Deck: Draw 2 cards. ● Extra Deck: Destroy 1 of those monsters Special Summoned from the Extra Deck. You can only use each effect of "The Iris Swordsoul" once per turn.

Similar to Ecclesia, we can show this card in hand with Skill to search for any Swordsoul card or even Ecclesia itself. Although it has a star number of 8, the effect will make it very easy to summon, as long as there is a monster on the field with its effect disabled, we can summon Iris at any time. When on the field, depending on the type of monster the enemy specially summons from, we can activate this girl's effect (mainly just waiting until the enemy summons from Extra to destroy)

If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can reveal 1 "Swordsoul" card or 1 Wyrm monster in your hand; Special Summon 1 "Swordsoul Token" (Wyrm/Tuner/WATER/Level 4/ATK 0/DEF 0). While that Token is in the Monster Zone, the player who Summoned it cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck, except Synchro Monsters. If this card is sent to the GY as Synchro Material: You can draw 1 card. You can only use each effect of "Swordsoul of Mo Ye" once per turn.

One of the best main starters of Archetype. We need another Swordsoul card in hand to activate her Token summoning ability, many people do not pay attention, sometimes leading to misplay and not having tokens to summon Synchro.

Mo Ye is the Swordsoul you'll want to see most often, as its Token spawn effect is the easiest way to get into your Level 8 Synchro plays, and also has the strongest GY effect of all the Swordsoul monsters. The combo of summoning Chixiao with Mo Ye will give you a very tasty +2 advantage. Never go with less than 3 copies.

You can banish 1 "Swordsoul" card or 1 Wyrm monster from your GY; Special Summon 1 "Swordsoul Token" (Wyrm/Tuner/WATER/Level 4/ATK 0/DEF 0). While that Token is in the Monster Zone, the player who Summoned it cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck, except Synchro Monsters. If this card is sent to the GY as Synchro Material: You can send 1 "Swordsoul" card or 1 Wyrm monster from your Deck to the GY. You can only use each effect of "Swordsoul of Taia" once per turn.

While less desirable as a draw card than any of your other cards, Taia is a good card and a potential trigger in play, especially since it can be searched (like anything in the Deck) and its special GY effect plays very well with The Golden Swordsoul's effect. Generally it can be 2 or 3 copies in the Main Deck to be able to Go full combo

You can discard 1 other "Swordsoul" card or 1 other Wyrm monster; Special Summon this card from your hand, then you can Special Summon 1 "Swordsoul Token" (Wyrm/Tuner/WATER/Level 4/ATK 0/DEF 0). While that Token is in the Monster Zone, the player who Summoned it cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck, except Synchro Monsters. If this card is sent to the GY as Synchro Material: You can inflict 1200 damage to your opponent. You can only use each effect of "Swordsoul Strategist Longyuan" once per turn.

If Mo Ye is your most basic starter, then Longyuan is your most basic extender. The discard effect is basically pretty harmless since you're sending something with a GY effect or something that can be resummoned. That effect alone combined with Longyuan's level can summon a very simple Chenying.

When a monster declares an attack: You can Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, negate that attack, then, if you control a Fusion Monster that mentions "Fallen of Albaz" as material, you can destroy the monster that declared that attack. If a monster is banished face-up (except during the Damage Step): You can banish this card from your field or GY; Special Summon 1 LIGHT Spellcaster monster from your hand or GY whose ATK equals its own DEF. You can only use this effect of "The Golden Swordsoul" once per turn.

Although this card has a very good effect from the hand to block attacks, I don't really use this effect of this card very often. I usually try to send this card to the graveyard as quickly as possible to be able to activate its effect below. This will help us have 1 Ecclesia on the field during the opponent's turn, at that time Ecclesia will be a very potential disruption.

I think this x2 card is quite reasonable, 1 to block attacks, 1 to summon Ecclesia

If this card is Normal or Special Summoned (except during the Damage Step): You can discard 1 card; Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, using monsters on either field as Fusion Material, including this card, but you cannot use other monsters you control as Fusion Material. You can only use this effect of "Fallen of Albaz" once per turn.

Although Anh Ba is not his deck, thanks to his skill, he has a certain slot in the Deck. Albaz's effect is quite similar to Super Poly . When summoned, we can put 1 card in our hand into the grave and then pick up 1 enemy monster + with Albaz to summon Fusion (however, this can be negated).
  • If the enemy has a monster from the Extra Deck (priority boss), we pick it up and summon Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon . If successful, Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon will give us 1 more quick banish turn equivalent to +2 Disruption (1 is picking up the enemy monster to Fusion, 2 is Mirrorjade's)

  • If the enemy doesn't summon from Extra, we can temporarily pick up the enemy's boss with over 2500 ATK to summon Titaniklad the Ash Dragon.

  • Or a cheaper option is Albion the Branded Dragon but it will only capture light type monsters.

Since Ba's effect is activated when summoned, we can use Ecclesia to summon him during the enemy's turn to pick up monsters, which I mentioned above.

Add 1 "Swordsoul" monster from your Deck to your hand, or if you control a Synchro Monster, you can add 1 Wyrm monster instead. If this card is banished: You can target 1 "Swordsoul" monster, or Wyrm monster, you control; increase or decrease its Level by 1 until the end of this turn. You can only use each effect of "Swordsoul Emergence" once per turn.

This card is quite simple, it can search any Swordsoul monster in your Deck or if you control a Synchro Monster, it can search any Wyrm monster in the game (but due to Skill limit, I probably won't mix it with any Wyrm anymore)

A great starter with Mo Ye, a great extender with Longyuan ,... these are 3 very obvious duplicates in any Swordsoul build.

You can only use each effect of "Swordsoul Sacred Summit" once per turn.

Swordsoul is the only card outside of the cores that many people will consider using. Being a searchable recycle itself makes it quite good, but many people ignore this and consider it not a big priority.

I often use this card to play Synchro turns up to 3 times. When Synchro reaches the 3rd time, we must use it to revive a Starter card like Taia or Mo ye to continue.

If this card is banished: You can Special Summon 1 "Swordsoul Token" (Wyrm/Tuner/WATER/Level 4/ATK 0/DEF 0). While that Token is in the Monster Zone, the player who Summoned it cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck, except Synchro Monsters. You can only use each effect of "Swordsoul Blackout" once per turn.

Considered an Icarus Attack of the archetype, due to its ease of access it is almost always used with only 1 copy in-game.

Having to destroy its entire Wyrm monster is hardly a problem since we can easily choose Tokens or Chengying (since he has the ability to protect himself from being destroyed), so I really find this trap card very good, so x2.

When it comes to Swordsoul, this is the Extra Deck card that NEEDS to be created. Thanks to Swordsoul Emergence (if not already used), Chixiao can search for any Swordsoul OR Wyrm Monster in the game when summoned. The latter effect is a relatively free form of disruption to the deck and cannot be chain-blocked, as it does not need to respond directly to activations but rather choose a target to negate. Remember that you can only use one Chixiao effect per turn .

Chengying is the biggest Boss in the Deck. At level 10 Synchro, it outshines even Baronne de Fleur , its good protection, powerful banishment effect (even if it's not always the easiest to use), and its stat manipulation effect that can get pretty big in the late game make for a great card overall.

"Fallen of Albaz" + 1 Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Monster You can only control 1 "Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon". Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can send 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck to the GY that mentions "Fallen of Albaz" as material; banish 1 monster on the field, also this card cannot use this effect next turn. If this Fusion Summoned card in its owner's control leaves the field because of an opponent's card: You can destroy all monsters your opponent controls during the End Phase of this turn.

This card will give us X3 in the Extra Deck thanks to Skill. It has a very strong quick banish effect on a monster on the field. If it goes with Chengyi, the enemy's field will likely fly to the Banish zone.
