How to play Flowandereeze

Welcome to the FLOOWANDEREEZE tutorial . FLOOWANDEREEZE is a trio of little birds who have exciting adventures, meeting all sorts of birds from around the world. Their artwork is super cute, vibrant, and simply fun, except that the "troll" players of Master Duel absolutely hate them.

Overview

Overview

From a gameplay perspective, I can understand why some people have issues with FLOOWANDEREEZE . To put it simply, FLOOWANDEREEZE is an archetype consisting of several Level 1 Winged Beasts, all sharing the following effects:

"They do something when you Normal Summon them, and then they grant you another Normal Summon."

This means the entire archetype is simply a chaining of Normal Summons. But while doing so, they lock you out of Special Summoning. They will also banish themselves if they leave the field face-up, which is extremely important because they can then return from the banish zone to your hand when you Normal Summon a Winged Beast.

All FLOWANDEREEZE are Winged Beast monsters, but they also interact well with additional Winged Beast cards. As far as TCG, OCG, and Master Duel are concerned, they work great alongside BARRIER STATUE OF THE STORMWINDS , one of the most student-friendly floodgates of all time, and MIST VALLEY APEX AVIAN , a card that is simply an omni-negate.

These random interactions were so good that FLOWAWANDEREEZE was a truly playable deck for a very long time. I don't think it was ever considered the strongest deck of any format, despite some detractors saying it would be Tier 0 in the TCG. Especially in a game where your opponent starts with MAXX "C" every time and you have an archetype that doesn't care about it because it doesn't Special Summon at all.

To be fair, those two Floodgate cards mentioned earlier don't exist in Duel Links, which some believe would diminish the archetype's potential and potentially render it unplayable. On the other hand, FLOWAWANDEREEZE has received almost every support card ever released for this archetype to date, and it would certainly be a mistake to remove it entirely before seeing what they can do. So what can they do? Let's find out.

If this face-up card would leave the field, banish it instead. You can only use each of the following effects of "Floowandereeze & Robina" once per turn, and cannot Special Summon during the turn you activate either effect. If this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 Level 4 or lower Winged Beast monster from your Deck to your hand, then immediately after this effect resolves, you can Normal Summon 1 Winged Beast monster. If a Winged Beast monster is Normal Summoned to your field while this card is banished: You can add this card to your hand.

Starting with FLOWAWANDEREEZE & ROBINA , this card has the general effect of all the Level 1 monsters I mentioned earlier, and a unique effect that allows you to search any low-level Winged Beast monster when it's Normal Summoned.

Needless to say, this is a really good effect. ROBINA is basically the best starter card in your deck, allowing you to execute your usual combos with extremely consistent success rates. I think you need 3 copies of this bird. I'm sorry to announce that this archetype isn't very budget-friendly for F2P players, but it's so good that you really just want to access it as easily and consistently as possible.

If this face-up card would leave the field, banish it instead. You can only use each of the following effects of "Floowandereeze & Eglen" once per turn, and cannot Special Summon during the turn you activate either effect. If this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 Level 7 or higher Winged Beast monster from your Deck to your hand, then immediately after this effect resolves, you can Normal Summon 1 Winged Beast monster. If a Winged Beast monster is Normal Summoned to your field while this card is banished: You can add this card to your hand.

Next up is FLOWAWANDEREEZE & EAGLEN . This one works similarly to ROBINA , but instead of searching for a low-level Winged Beast, it searches for a high-level Winged Beast.
This one is also pretty good; it's not as good a starter as Robina , but it's still essential as part of your first turn combo.

If this face-up card would leave the field, banish it instead. You can only use each of the following effects of "Floowandereeze & Stri" once per turn, and cannot Special Summon during the turn you activate either effect. If this card is Normal Summoned: You can target 1 card in either GY; banish it, then immediately after this effect resolves, you can Normal Summon 1 Winged Beast monster. If a Winged Beast monster is Normal Summoned to your field while this card is banished: You can add this card to your hand.

Next up is FLOOWANDEREEZE & STRI . This one is similar to DDR - DIFFERENT DIMENSION REINCARNATION when Normal Summoned. It can be applied to both Graveyards, and there might be a reason you want to banish a FLOOWANDEREEZE monster from your Graveyard so you can retrieve it later. This one is definitely a bit more situational but still a pretty cool card. I think one copy of it is more than enough.

You can only use each of the following effects of "Floowandereeze & Toccan" once per turn, and cannot Special Summon during the turn you activate either effect. If this card is Normal Summoned: You can target 1 of your banished "Floowandereeze" cards; add it to your hand, then immediately after this effect resolves, you can Normal Summon 1 Winged Beast monster. If a Winged Beast monster is Normal Summoned to your field while this card is banished: You can add this card to your hand.

Finally, there's FLOOWANDEREEZE & TOCCAN , a card that retrieves a FLOOWANDEREEZE card that was banished when Normal Summoned. Note that I said "card," so this card can also retrieve your backrow. You might think this isn't really useful for small birds since they can retrieve themselves, which is true, but this card can retrieve your Spell/Trap cards and even high-level monsters (large birds) that don't have self-healing effects.

One copy is all you need.

If this card is Tribute Summoned: You can add 1 "Floowandereeze" Spell/Trap from your Deck to your hand, then immediately after this effect resolves, you can Normal Summon 1 monster. While this Tribute Summoned card is in the Monster Zone, your opponent cannot activate the effects of Special Summoned monsters they control in Attack Position. Once per battle, during damage calculation, if this card battles an opponent's monster (Quick Effect): You can banish 1 card from your hand; that opponent's monster's current ATK/DEF become halved until the end of this turn.

FLOOWANDEREEZE & EMPEN: When Tribute Summoned, it searches for a FLOOWANDEREEZE Spell/Trap card, but then it also grants you an additional Normal Summon. Like the rest of the archetype, you can continue the combo after EMPEN Summoning. This card is also like a walking DRAIN skill . It only affects Special Summoned monsters in Attack Position and doesn't negate Continuous Effects, only preventing them from activating. And last but not least, once per battle, if you banish a card from your hand while EMPEN is battling, your opponent's Attack and Defense are halved, a really good effect. Many people will be fooled because this is NOT "once per turn".

EMPEN is fantastic. A typical turn of yours will always include ROBINA summoning EAGLEN , searching for and summoning EMPEN , thereby paving the way for you to find the necessary backrow to disrupt your opponent on their turn while sitting on a lightweight SKILL DRAIN . For this deck, you don't need too many copies of it. One or two copies are enough because it's extremely easy to find.

Once per turn, while you control this Tribute Summoned card: You can conduct up to 3 Normal Summons/Sets this turn, not just 1. While this Tribute Summoned card is in the Monster Zone, if your monster attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent. Once per opponent's turn (Quick Effect): You can banish 1 card from your hand; change all Special Summoned monsters your opponent controls to face-down Defense Position.

Another Boss FLOOWANDEREEZE is FLOOWANDEREEZE & SNOWL . When Tributed, it grants you 3 Normal or Set Summons this turn, which your archetype already does, but that's fine. While you control this Tributed Summoned card, all your monsters gain Defense Penetration, and during your opponent's turn, you can discard a card from your hand to " BOOK OF ECLIPSE" (set face down) any Special Summoned monster your opponent controls.

Unlike EMPEN , a card seen in almost every FLOOWANDEREEZE list, SNOWL isn't really seen played much in the TCG, OCG, or even Master Duel. This is largely because the archetype has access to much better general support, but also because this card simply didn't perform well enough when FLOOWANDEREEZE launched, and I don't think it will perform well enough in Duel Links today. You can still experiment with up to one copy. I think you'll mostly be disappointed.

During your Main Phase: You can reveal 1 Level 1 "Floowandereeze" monster in your hand and banish 1 "Floowandereeze" card with a different name from your Deck, then, immediately after this effect resolves, Normal Summon the revealed monster. If your opponent Normal Summons a monster: Immediately after this effect resolves, you can Normal Summon 1 "Floowandereeze" monster. You can only use each effect of "Floowandereeze and the Magnificent Map" once per turn.

In exchange for showing a Level 1 FLOWANDEREEZE monster and banishing a different named FLOWANDEREEZE card from your deck, you can Normal Summon the monster you showed immediately.

This is really useful considering all your Level 1 FLOOWANDEREEZE monsters automatically add themselves back to your hand from the banishment zone after you Normal Summon. Also, if your opponent Normal Summons a monster, you can immediately Normal Summon a FLOOWANDEREEZE monster from their hand, thus giving you a disruption in your opponent's turn. MAGNIFICENT MAP is simply a great card. It can also serve as a starter and a key disruption piece. I think playing 3 copies is safe. It's even so good that you'll consider playing TERRAFORMING just to access it more consistently.

You can conduct Tribute Summons that require 2 Tributes by sending 1 monster you control and 1 card your opponent controls to the GY instead of Tributing (it is still treated as a Tribute Summon). During your Main Phase: You can reveal up to 2 Winged Beast monsters in your hand and place them on the bottom of your Deck in any order, then draw the same number of cards. You can only use this effect of "Floowandereeze and the Unexplored Winds" once per turn.

FLOWOWANDEREEZE AND THE UNEXPLORED WINDS is an Eternal Spell card that allows you to show up to 2 Winged Beast monsters from your hand, place them at the bottom of your deck, and then draw the corresponding number of cards.

But more importantly, it allows you to Tribute a monster that requires 2 Tributes by sending an opponent-controlled card to the Graveyard instead of Tributing 2 of your own cards. This is the other half of the Interrupting ability of the end board deck FLOWAWANDEREEZE , a card you'll very often seek out with EMPEN and which gives you the ability to remove almost unconditionally anything your opponent might have. It's a really powerful card, but you only need 1 copy because you can search for it.

FLOOWANDEREEZE AND THE ADVENT OF ADVENTURE is a Quick-Play Spell that allows you to banish a Winged Beast from your hand or face up on the field to add a FLOOWANDEREEZE monster or its Environment card from your deck to your hand.

And you might be thinking, " Wait, why would I want to banish something that's upside down from my field? ". So you can avoid disruption, Baka ><! If your ROBINA is affected by EFFECT VEILER , you can chain ADVENT OF ADVENTURE , banish ROBINA , get another FLOOWANDEREEZE , immediately summon it with ROBINA 's effect , and look for something else.

ADVENT OF ADVENTURE is simply a fantastic card and definitely the supporting piece that propelled FLOOWANDEREEZE from Tier 2 to Tier 1 in other formats. You really need three copies of it. I'm sorry, this isn't a budget-friendly archetype.

If you Tribute Summon a Level 7 or higher monster while this card is in your GY: You can banish this card; change all monsters your opponent controls to face-down Defense Position. You can only use this effect of "Floowandereeze and the Dreaming Town" once per turn.

FLOWOWANDEREEZE AND THE DREAMING TOWN is their first Trap card and allows you to Normal Summon. It only gives you one Normal Summon. On top of that, you can also banish it from the Graveyard while you Tribute a Level 7 or higher monster to BOOK OF ECLIPSE the entire field of your opponent. All of their monsters, whether Special Summoned or not, Kneel!

This card also possesses a powerful disruptive ability, not only allowing you to access your opponent's Normal Summon engines during their turn but also shutting down any threats they might build. And you can activate both effects in the same turn. DREAMING TOWN is also a x1 play card because it's extremely easy to find.

You can only activate 1 "Floowandereeze and the Scary Sea" per turn.

Last, and I guess the worst, is the Counter Trap card FLOWANDEREEZE AND THE SCARY SEA . This card is essentially SOLEMN STRIKE that also prevents your opponent from Special Summoning a monster for the rest of their turn, provided they get 3 Normal Summons this turn and you need to control a monster that has been Tributed to activate this card.

According to the TCG, this card is a bit too situational compared to everything else FLOWAWANDEREEZE can do, especially considering you have access to BARRIER STATUE OF THE STORMWINDS . So in that respect, it's not really played and I'm not sure if it fits into Duel Links, but I guess you could also experiment with up to 1 copy.

As I mentioned earlier, EAGLEN can search for any high-level Winged Beast monster, including the recently released RAIZA THE MEGA MONARCH in Card Trader. What a coincidence! Although remember that you need to Tribute a Wind monster along with RAIZA to get the bonus effect, and a couple of FLOWANDEREEZE monsters are Water type.

But you could also look for SIMORGH OF DARKNESS , a monster with a Special Summon condition that conflicts with FLOWANDEREEZE but provides a backrow negate that can be useful.

As I mentioned before, this archetype really dislikes having their first Normal Summon turn interrupted by something, unless you have Environment cards, it's very difficult to play. So, eating an INFINITE IMPERMANENCE or an EFFECT VEILER on your first Normal turn, usually ROBINA , would be really bad.

However, in addition to the previously mentioned ADVENT OF ADVENTURE , this archetype also tends to play BOOK OF MOON , targeting our own items to ensure that they successfully trigger the effect.

This turn, one of the cards from your normal draw will be an "Icarus Attack" or a random Winged Beast monster from your Deck. Then, you can activate "Icarus Attack" from your hand. 2: Reveal 1 Winged Beast monster or 1 Trap Card in your hand, then either place that card on the bottom of your Deck or send it to the Graveyard. Then, draw 2 cards.

FLOWAWANDEREEZE doesn't really have a dedicated Skill, which is quite rare for archetypes these days. I'm not complaining, I think it's a good enough deck that it doesn't really need an additional Stability Skill.

But it has the potential to play the DESTINY DRAW: VERMILLION SPARROW skill (or similar), which gives you ICARUS ATTACK , which I guess is another way to potentially disrupt, especially considering the skill lets you activate it from your hand. I guess the 2-card draw effect is also appreciated, especially if you happen to draw one of those high-level Winged Beast monsters that you'd rather seek out with EAGLEN .

                      Strengths & Weaknesses

                      STRENGTHS

                      • Stability & Simplicity:

The deck operates extremely smoothly with a perfectly synchronized formula in every turn:

                        1. Summon Regular ROBINA -> Find EAGLEN .

                        2. Summon Normal EAGLEN -> Find EMPEN .

                        3. Normal Summon ( EMPEN ) -> Find Backrow.

                        4. On your opponent's turn: Repeat the above process to summon RAIZA THE MEGA MONARCH .

                      • Unique Disruption Mechanism:

Unlike other decks, FLOWAWANDEREEZE punishes your opponent immediately when they use a Normal Summon. As soon as your opponent Normal Summons, it suddenly becomes your turn, and you execute a long combo chain. This creates immense psychological pressure on your opponent.

                      • The Potential for Endless Grinding:

All the small monsters return to your hand from the banishment area every time you perform a Normal Summon. This means you have a reusable resource forever, never having to worry about running out of monsters.

                      WEAKNESSES

                      • Skill Disadvantage (No Broken Skill):

This is its most fatal weakness. While BLUE-EYES can summon MAJESTY WITH EYES OF BLUE for free from the deck, or SHINOBIRD can easily steal monsters, FLOOWANDEREEZE relies solely on pure skill. The lack of a broken skill sometimes puts the deck at a disadvantage against the unreasonable power of other Meta Decks.

                      • Predictable Tactics:

This deck has been figured out. Everyone knows what you're trying to do: continuous Normal Summons. Therefore, it's easy for opponents to anticipate your moves and deploy hard counters at the right time. The overly linear gameplay eliminates the element of surprise.

                      • Missing Tools:

Compared to its TCG/OCG/Master Duel version, FLOOWANDEREEZE in Duel Links has been significantly "crippled." We don't have BARRIER STATUE OF THE STORMWINDS (Special Summon lock), MIST VALLEY APEX AVIAN (Omni-negate), or HARPIE'S FEATHER STORM. The absence of these overbearing cards makes the deck more "fair," but also means it's at a disadvantage.

                      Summary

Will FLOWAWANDEREEZE be able to take off in the Duel Links meta? I don't know. As I said, it's certainly a good deck, but "good" sometimes considers the creep power skills that have been around since 2024. And the reality has proven it can't make it into the Tier List.
