Chronomaly Gameplay Guide

Chronomaly Gameplay Guide

So the Yu-gi-oh! World Championship has come to an end. Congratulations to Shelmy for winning the Speed Duel Duel Links format!!

And 1 of the 5 decks of our champion is Chronomaly, an unremarkable Archetype used by the character Trey. So now let's take a look at what this archetype has that made Shelmy trust and choose it as 1 of the 5 decks.

Chronomaly - Rise up, Thousand-Year-Old Artifacts

Chronomaly - Rise up, Thousand-Year-Old Artifacts

Chronomaly is the Xyz control spam archetype, and it's been that way for a while now. Since they were first introduced in Mini Box: Arts Of Atlantis , and then got a ton of valuable support cards in Main Box: Solflare Lighting , and pretty much gave us the rest of the archetype in Mini Box: Ray Of Aura .

The deck's goal is to out enemy resources and negate opponent effects with floodgate cards like: Abyss Dweller , Chronomaly Vimana , and Number 36: Chronomaly Chateau Huyuk .

When this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 "Chronomaly" card from your Deck to your hand, except "Chronomaly Nebra Disk". If this card is in the Graveyard and all monsters you control are "Chronomaly" monsters (min. 1): You can Special Summon this card in Defense Position. You cannot activate cards or effects during the turn you activate this effect, except "Chronomaly" cards and effects. You can only use 1 "Chronomaly Nebra Disk" effect per turn, and only once that turn.

Chronomaly Nebra Disk is the primary way to search for any Chronomaly card. This effect is extremely valuable with the Skill Hope-Filled Chronomaly . It can also revive itself from the GRAPH if you control only a Chronomaly monster, but keep in mind that if you revive it, you can only activate Chronomaly's effects.

Moai is a staple from Archetyp Chronomaly, opening up easy Xyz summons.
It's pretty bricky if it's top-deck, but pretty necessary. The new ability makes it much less bricky if it's in the first hand, as it's a great way to trigger effects. Personally, I like to play it x2, but x3 is fine too.

Chronomaly Crystal Bones (x1-2)

If your opponent controls a monster and you control no monsters, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). When you do: You can Special Summon 1 "Chronomaly" monster from your hand or Graveyard, except "Chronomaly Crystal Bones".

Crystal Bones is great to have on turn two because it counters anything. It special summons and a Chronomaly card from your hand or Graveyard. It’s also an alternative way to activate the Skill, since it’s not a Level 4 chronomaly. The number of Crystal Bones you put in your deck depends on the number of cards in your deck: if you have 24 or more cards, you should play 2, but if you have 23 or less, 1 is more than enough.

If a "Chronomaly" monster(s) you control would be destroyed by battle or your opponent's card effect, you can discard this card instead. If this card is in your GY: You can pay 1000 LP; Special Summon this card, but return it to the hand during the End Phase. You cannot Special Summon monsters the turn you activate this effect, except "Chronomaly" monsters. You can only use this effect of "Chronomaly Acambaro Figures" once per turn.

Acambaro Figures are a great way to Xyz Summon easily or give your monster some extra protection; for 1000LP. If it's in the Graveyard, you can spend 1000LP to Special Summon Figures, but it will return to your hand at the end of your turn. Using this effect will lock you out of playing Chronomaly monsters for the rest of your turn.

Figures can also act as a Hand-Trap, sending it from your hand to the GY to prevent a Chronomaly monster from being destroyed. This effect is valuable when you have something big on the field, like Chronomaly Vimana .

Chronomaly Tuspa Rocket (x0-2)

EARTH 4
Chronomaly Tuspa Rocket
  • ATK:

  • 1000

  • DEF:

  • 1000

If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can send 1 "Chronomaly" monster from your Deck or Extra Deck to the GY, then target 1 face-up monster on the field; it loses ATK equal to the Level/Rank of the monster sent to the GY x 200. A "Number" Xyz Monster that was Summoned using this card on the field as material gains this effect. ● This card can make up to 2 attacks on monsters during each Battle Phase. You can only use each effect of "Chronomaly Tuspa Rocket" once per turn.

Tuspa Rocket is a very interesting card. It can be very useful, sending cards like Chronomaly Nebra Disk or Chronomaly Acambaro Figures to the Graveyard to create an easy Xyz monster, then making a Number monster attack twice. Tuspa Rocket's second effect is best used on a card like Number 36: Chronomaly Chateau Huyuk , as Huyuk can make the monster's Atk 0, then attack twice, dealing at least 2000LP in the process.

Chronomaly Magella Globe (x0-1)

Chronomaly Magella Globe
  • ATK:

  • 1500

  • DEF:

You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 1 "Chronomaly" monster from your Deck, except "Chronomaly Magella Globe". If this card is in your GY, except the turn it was sent there: You can banish 1 "Chronomaly" card from your GY, except "Chronomaly Magella Globe"; add this card to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Chronomaly Magella Globe" once per turn.

The purpose of Magella Globe is to bring another Chronomaly monster from your deck onto the field, while also bringing a chronomaly down to yours. This works great when paired with Chronomaly Technology , as you can banish the globe for free. Magella Globe can also restore itself to your hand by banishing an unnecessary Chronomaly card from your GY to return itself to your hand, thus allowing you to summon more XYZ monsters. Keep in mind that Globe is usually only played in the Traptrix Rafflesia version of the deck , as you don't really want to draw your Trap Holes, so the globe is there to take up deck space, while still being useful a bit.

These guys really aren't worth the space in the deck with the combos we have. If you really want to play one of these cards, I feel like Chronomaly Gordian Knot is your best chance of finding something viable enough to play in competitive play, but if you want to run the best version of the deck, then forget about them.

Target 1 "Chronomaly" monster in your Graveyard; banish it, then look at the top 2 cards of your Deck, add 1 of them to your hand, and send the other to the Graveyard. You can only activate 1 "Chronomaly Technology" per turn. You cannot Special Summon any monsters during the turn you activate this card, except "Chronomaly" monsters.

Chronomaly Technology is just a filter card (sort of just for the sake of it :v), which allows you to look at the top two cards of your deck, add one to your hand, then send the other to the GY, if you banish a Chronomaly card. It locks you out of Chronomaly monsters, but that drawback is usually negligible, especially when going first.

During the Main Phase: Target 1 Xyz Monster Card you control or in your GY; Special Summon 2 "Chronomaly" monsters that are 1 Level higher than that monster's Rank, from your hand, Deck, and/or GY, but negate their effects, then, immediately after this effect resolves, Xyz Summon 1 "Chronomaly" Xyz Monster using only those 2 monsters. You can only activate 1 "Chronomaly Esperanza Glyph" per turn.

Esperanza Glyph is a very powerful combo card that can be added to your hand with Chronomaly Nebra Disk . It allows you to draw a Chronomaly Xyz monster one level higher than the one you control or in your Graveyard, using 2 Chronomaly monsters from anywhere except Banish. So if you have a card like Abyss Dweller in play, you can activate Glyph and then have another Chronomaly Vimana !

Trap Holes are often paired with Traptrix Rafflesia , or as an alternative option to annoy the enemy in the form of a trap. The Trap Hole stack is also quite tough since you usually don't run any extra backrow protection, or Quick spells in general with Trap Holes.

Some of these cards, mainly Floodgate Trap Hole , Treacherous Trap Hole and Bottomless Trap Hole , can be used individually but the rest are useless without Traptrix Rafflesia .

                                      Trap Continuous
                                      Barrage Blast

Once per turn, you can detach any number of materials from Machine Xyz Monsters you control, then target that many cards on the field; destroy them. If a Machine Xyz Monster(s) you control is destroyed by battle or an opponent's card effect while this card is in your GY: You can banish this card and 1 Machine Xyz Monster from your GY; inflict damage to your opponent equal to the banished monster's Rank x 200.

Barrage Blast is a very important removal card for Chronomaly. It removes materials from Machine Xyz monsters, but that is only a minor drawback, especially when Chronomaly Vimana is on the field. This card is ALWAYS used in Chronomaly, as it is one of Chronomaly's best techs.

2 Level 5 monsters Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can target 1 face-up monster on the field and 1 Xyz Monster or "Chronomaly" monster in your GY; that monster on the field gains half the ATK of that monster in the GY (until the end of this turn), then attach that monster from the GY to this card as material. Once per turn, when your opponent activates a monster effect (Quick Effect): You can detach 2 materials from this card; negate the activation.

Vimana is one of the key cards in Chronomaly's strategy, having the ability to regenerate Xyz materials, and increase ATK for itself or another monster on the field, and best of all: it can detach 2 Xyz materials to negate the opponent's monster effects!

This card is very easy to summon in this deck, especially with the ability: Hope-Filled Chronomaly , as well as all the combos the deck can create with cards like Chronomaly Nebra Disk , Chronomaly Acambaro Figures , and Chronomaly Tuspa Rocket .

3 Level 5 LIGHT monsters You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a Rank 4 "Utopia" monster you control as material. (Transfer its materials to this card.) Cannot be used as material for an Xyz Summon. If this card battles, your opponent cannot activate cards or effects until the end of the Damage Step. Once per Chain, during damage calculation, if this card battles an opponent's monster while this card has a "Utopia" Xyz Monster as material (Quick Effect): You can detach 2 materials from this card; this card's ATK becomes 5000 during that damage calculation only.

Utopia the Lighting is often used as a base for the skill: Hope-Filled Chronomaly , but considering what it does, I guess I need to talk about it.

If S39 battles an opponent's monster, he can increase his attack to 5000, it always goes straight to 5000 so don't bother increasing its attack. It also has an ability very similar to the Ancient Gear monster, negating all cards and effects while it attacks.

3 Level 4 monsters Once per turn, you can also Xyz Summon "Full Armored Utopic Ray Lancer" by discarding 1 Spell/Trap and using 1 Rank 4 or lower Xyz Monster you control. (Transfer its materials to this card.) Monsters your opponent controls lose 500 ATK. At the start of the Battle Phase: You can negate the effects of all Attack Position monsters your opponent currently controls. When this attacking card destroys an opponent's monster by battle: You can detach 1 material from this card; it can make a second attack in a row.

Full Armored Utopic Ray Lancer is a formidable force, but it hasn't reached its full potential in Chronomaly. Removing a Spell/Trap to move on from Number 39: Utopia really hurts this deck. And it's not a Number, so it doesn't have the upside of Number S39: Utopia the Lightning . The card is good, especially if you need to fill your Extra Deck, but it's not the best card here.

2 Level 6 monsters You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a "Constellar" Xyz Monster you control as the Xyz Material, other than "Constellar Ptolemy M7". (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If Summoned this way, the following effect cannot be activated this turn. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 monster on the field or in either player's Graveyard; return that target to the hand.

Because of Skill: Hope-Filled Chronomaly , adding 1 Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis to the extra deck, it's quite good to add 1 rank 6 XYZ monster to use.

                                        • Ptolemy M7 has a pretty good card flip effect, bringing 1 card on the field or in the grave to the owner's hand (regardless of friend or enemy).

                                        • Force Focus negates the effect of a Level 5 or higher monster until the end of the turn. This is very effective against decks like Revolution des Fleurs , which negates the effects of Sorciere de Fleur .

2 Level 4 monsters While this card has a material attached that was originally WATER, all WATER monsters you control gain 500 ATK. Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can detach 1 material from this card; your opponent cannot activate any card effects in their GY this turn.

Dweller is a very good Rank 4 choice, being able to negate most, if not all, Graveyard-related effects in decks. You can also Summon it, then use Chronomaly Esperanza Glyph to create Chronomaly Vimana .

This card gains ATK equal to half the ATK of that equipped monster. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then send the monster equipped by this effect to the Graveyard; halve your opponent's Life Points. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this effect.

This card was added to the Extra deck by Hope-Filled Chronomaly, but don't add anything to the deck. This card can be used to bring out better, more valuable meat, like Constellar Ptolemy M7 or Number 25: Force Focus . There's no need to add this card.

You can only use this Skill's second effect once per Duel and its third effect once per turn. 1: You can only Normal or Special Summon "Chronomaly" monsters (excluding Special Summons from the Extra Deck). 2: Send 1 non-Level 4 "Chronomaly" monster from your hand to the Graveyard, then add 1 non-Level 4 "Chronomaly" monster from your Deck to your hand, and add 4 "Number" monsters from outside of your Deck to your Extra Deck. 3: Send 1 Rank 3–6 "Number" monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard, and the Level of each monster on your field becomes the same as the Rank of that monster.

Yes, this Skill has the following content:

You can only use the second effect of this Skill once per Battle and the third effect once per turn.

1: You can only Normal or Special Summon "Chronomaly" monsters (excluding Special Summons from Extra).

2: Send 1 non-Level 4 "Chronomaly" monster from your hand to the Graveyard, then add 1 non-Level 4 "Chronomaly" monster from your Deck to your hand and add 4 "Number" monsters from outside to your Extra.

3: Send 1 Rank 3–6 "Number" monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard, and the Level of each monster on your field is equal to that monster's Rank.

Let's talk about each of these effects.

Effect 1: The first effect locks you into Normal/Special Summoning only Chronomaly Monsters. Excludes summoning from the Extra Deck. However, this drawback is almost non-existent, it's just there to make sure you're playing Chronomaly.

Effect 2: This is where things get a little interesting! These Number monsters are as follows: Number 39: Utopia , Number 36: Chronomaly Chateau Huyuk , Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mech , and Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis . These cards will be useful when using the triple effect, but we'll talk about that later.

Ideally the card sent to the graveyard would be Chronomaly Acambaro Figures , and then you would search for Chronomaly Moai or Chronomaly Crystal Bones , so on turn one you would need to search for Chronomaly Acambaro Figures .

Third Effect: This effect is the most important . This effect works very well with 4 "Number" monsters added to your Extra Deck by the second effect: it guarantees you 2 Rank 4, 1 Rank 5, and 1 Rank 6, plus any rank 4-6 "Numbers" you added to your Deck.

The third effect is limited to once per turn, so you can ensure that your monsters' levels are the same every turn.
