Instructions for playing and building Tearlaments - TCG
I will try to write a simple article on how to build and play Tearlaments - Top deck on all platforms!
Sections covered in this guide:
Introduce
- Tears of the ocean -
As the name suggests, Tearlaments is an Aqua Fusion deck that works by sending cards from the deck to the GY, mainly from the top of the deck, milling Lightsworn (like falling tears). They are mainly Aqua-type Dark monsters, ranging from Level 2 to Level 4. The exception is Tearlaments Reinoheart , which are instead Level 4 Warrior-type Water monsters.
The best part is that the deck will only become more complete with future releases! Magnificent Mavens will bring us new supports from Ishizu Ishtar's deck, and with it a bunch of power for Tearlaments (to be analyzed later). But now, with Mavens not releasing until November, Tearlament has crushed the competition with its first support.
To play Tearlaments to its full potential, you need to make sure that you can play freely for most of your turns. Decks like these are fun to play, because each turn can be very different, even though your actual deck remains the same. Tearlaments are very reminiscent of Lightsworn (can be searched in the search section of YGO Vietnam), but the difference in what you use can bring a very different experience over many matches.
Each Tearlaments has an ability that activates when it is sent to the GY as part of a card effect. It doesn't matter how they get there.
That gives you a lot of ways to build and experiment with the deck, there are many different approaches and different ways to finish off your opponents.

Core
Back to deck building. A set of Tearlaments will mainly include the following cores:
Tearlaments Havnis, Tearlaments Scheiren and Tearlaments Merrli (3x per card)
Tearlaments Scheiren, Merrli and Havnis all shared the following:
"If this card is sent to the GY by card effect (except during the Damage Step): You can Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, by placing the Fusion material mentioned on it from your hand , your field and/or GY, including this card from your GY, at the bottom of your Deck in any order. You can only use each effect of "Tearlaments X" once per turn."
That's right, you will always get Fusion Summon every time Tearlaments fall into the grave - completely different from Lightsworn :") Each card I mentioned will have a different first effect
- Scheiren is a special summon during your Main Phase and 3-card mill
- Havnis is a special summon when your opponent activates a monster effect ON the field and mills 3 cards
- Merril is a normal or special summon that sends 3 cards to the GY like her starfruit sisters (better Card Trooper ).
And the last thing they have in common is that they all impact EACH OTHER . This will always come in handy in your combos!
Tearlaments Reinoheart (3x)
When summoned, Reinoheart sends any Tearlaments monsters from your deck to the GY, and if Reinoheart is sent by an effect? You can summon it back, then send a Tearlaments card from your hand to the grave, and yes, that means it will activate the sent card's Fusion effect.
Tearlaments Kaleido-Heart and Tearlaments Kitkallos (1x Heart, 2x Kit)
- Kitkallos takes any Tearlaments monster and any Aqua monster as material, and when summoned, it can search for any Tearlaments. As if that weren't enough, Kitkallos also allows you to target a monster you control, Special Summon a Tear from your hand or grave, and then destroy the target. Don't worry though, somehow there's even more: from there, if Kitkallos is sent to the grave by an effect, you can mill FIVE cards! A perfect combo for Instant Fusion!!!
- Kaleido-Heart on the other hand is the boss of Tearlaments, with some deadly effects. Requires Reinoheart and any two Aqua monsters as materials, this behemoth reaches 3000 ATK and DEF. It cannot be used as a Fusion Material, and whenever it is Special Summoned or when an Aqua is sent to the grave by a card effect, you can target a card on the field and shuffle it into deck of cards.
- Oh, and if Kaleido-Heart dies by card effect? You can summon it back, then send a Tearlaments from your deck to the graveyard. While it is one of Tearlaments' Extra Decks, it is also a constant threat that you cannot ignore.
Tearlaments Rulkallos (0-1x)
Also the boss of the deck, but different from the above two cards, Lulu makes the opponent's special summon a little more difficult (like a mediocre version of Colossus) as well as making your Tears immortal. Well, to be honest, in the first version of this deck, this card wasn't really necessary. But fun to try guys!
Tearlaments Metanoise, Tearlaments Sulliek and Primeval Planet Perlereino (Spell & Trap)
On top of all these powerful monsters, the deck has some great spells and traps. Above are 3 cards that I see that every build usually has.
- Primeval Planet Perlereino searches for Tearlaments when activated, your monsters and Fusion of Tearlaments both receive 500 ATK. It's strange that small increases matter so much, often on swing plays that you might not expect to win so quickly. And once per turn, when a Tearlaments monster from your field or tissue is shuffled back into the deck (e.g. due to their effect), You can target a card on the field and destroy it. Any card.
- Rate: 2-3x
- Tearlaments Metanoise is a Book of Moon themed that also sends a Tear from the deck to the grave, and when it is milled to the grave, it will get you a Tear from your grave.
- Rate: 1x
- Tearlaments Sulliek allows you to negate face-up monster effects and when it is milled to the grave, it will search for any Tearlaments monsters for you.
- Rate: 1x
Tech
Handtrap
What makes Tearlaments so worth playing? Part of my personal opinion is that there is little handtrap. Yeah, almost every build uses quite a bit of hantrap. Yes, handtrap can counter the deck but even so, Tearlaments combos still can't stop it!
Above are some handtraps that will be needed in building a deck. Check them out!!!
King of the Swamp (3x)
An important card for Tearlaments Fusions, need to maximize its use! Not to mention providing quick access to Polymerization !
Extra Deck
The following is a quick list of what you need to have in your Extra Deck
Combo
This is the part that newbies need the most to be able to fully use the deck
Tearlaments Reinoheart, Tearlaments Kitkallos and Tearlaments Merrli (Basic combos)
- Normal Summon Tearlaments Reinoheart and use its effect to bring Tearlaments Merrli to the GY
- Activate Merrli, place Merrli and Reinoheart at the bottom of the deck to Summon Tearlaments Kitkallos
- Use Kitkallos to search Merrli
- Use Kitkallos to target itself, and summon Merrli from hand, then destroy Kitkallos itself
- Activate Merrli to mill 3 leaves and Kitkallos to mill 5
If you draw any Danger, or King of the Swamp, you can really change things up, giving you an extra lvl 4 or Aqua to Xyz Summon or Fusion, and depending on the variation you can do Get more!
This will be the basic combo to continue the next turn. Newbies please refer and pay attention!
Sample Decks
As mentioned above, depending on the variation, your combos will have different skins and their own colors!
Tearlaments ft Despia Branded
The next version will be more about Despia. Thanks to Branded Fusion , you can do crazy plays like sending any Tearlaments monster to the grave with your Fallen of Albaz , to spawn Lubellion the Searing Dragon . From there, you can discard any card to create Mirrorjade , and reshuffle the Tearlament monster and any other cards you drew to create Kitkallos, search for another card, and get some sweet mills. Branded in Red gives you even more access to your best Fusions. And activate cards like Despian Tragedy and gain additional Fusion Summon!!!.
Tearlaments ver Eldlich
The golden boy version is even more inhibited. Instead of trying to deal a billion points of damage on the field, you can use There Can Be Only One , Skill Drain and Eldlich to slow your opponent until you can use Tearlament's explosive effect to apply pressure. force on your opponents, and send them back on the field.
It's a much simpler plan and it's less physical, but it's even more stable. Depending on how the format is changed, one of these two variants can gain an advantage over the other variants or over the pure version of Tear.

Epilogue
Tearlaments is a great deck and is currently at the top in every format (probably about to be banned soon). But that doesn't mean there's no way to deal with them - Tear's biggest weakness is still banish (difficult to restock).
Welp, we won't talk much about that part. Simply because this is an article about how to build and play Tear. Surely in the future, YGO Vietnam will release many articles analyzing Tear's stats and strength! But until now, I hope you have a good time reading the article and let's enjoy YuGiOH!!!
